Artist Statement

I am a landscape artist painting the land where I’ve spent most of my life. I have a personal relationship with this area and my desire is to express through paint the feelings I have about it. Searching for patterns in the fallen snow or rhythms created by rain splashing in a vernal pool, I cross the line between representation and abstraction, intending to convey my reaction to what I see around me. Through the interaction of shapes and the use of color, light and rhythm I am speaking about the forces of nature surrounding me. The abstract qualities of nature manifested in my work become metaphors for my thoughts and feelings as I respond to the events of my life.
